Cancellation Policy

Cancellations may be made at no charge up to 24 hours in advance. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged for the first night's stay.

Useful Information

  • Linens, pillows and blankets are provided free of charge. Sleeping bags are not permitted.
  • There is a 14 night maximum stay per season.
  • Hostel is open 24 hours/day.
  • Individual guests under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by aparent or legal guardian.
  • Check-in upon arrival based on bed availability.
  • All guests must present a valid government issue photo ID upon check-in.

By Subway

From South Station (Amtrak and bus station):
Go downstairs to the Red Line of the subway. Take the Red Line inbound to the Park Street T Station. At Park Street, switch to the Green Line and take a B, C or D train going Westbound.

Get off at the Kenmore Sq. stop. Go through the turnstiles and take the exit on the right. You should come up the stairs next to the Brueger’s Bagels, on Beacon Street. Walk in the direction of the traffic (you should pass the BU Barnes and Noble bookstore) and bear right. The street becomes Commonwealth Avenue, and the hostel is on your immediate right.

From the Airport:
Take the free Massport Shuttle bus to the Airport subway stop. Take the blue Line inbound to the Government Center T stop. Change to a Green Line and take a B, C, or D train going Westbound. Get off at the Kenmore Sq. stop.

By Car

SOUTH (From Cape Cod or I-95 to I-93 North):
* Take Route 3 to I-93 to Mass Ave. exit toward boston, not Roxbury. (There is A LOT of construction. Go slow and follow signs!)
* Take a right onto Mass. Ave. Go about three miles - you will pass the Christian Science Center on your right.
* Follow Massachusetts Avenue until you go over the highway and railroad.

NORTH:
South on I-93 to Storrow Drive.
* Continue on Storrow. (about 5 minutes)
* Drive West to the Kenmore exit. (left hand exit, next exit after Mass Ave)
* Kenmore exit off Storrow Drive. The exit is to your left. bear right at exit.
* At the first light take a right. This will be beacon Street. You should see a burrito Max on the right.
* Follow beacon into Kenmore Square. You must stay to the right - do NOT take the bridge over the Turnpike.
* bear right through the lights, past the bU barnes and Noble bookstore.
* The street becomes Commonwealth Ave (although you do not turn) and the hostel is on your immediate right.

FROM THE AIRPORT:
Use Sumner Tunnel (Route 1A)/Central Artery/Storrow Drive/Charlesgate Overpass:
* Take Logan exit to Sumner Tunnel/Route 1 A to boston.
* Take I-93 North ramp at end of Sumner Tunnel.
* After only 1/4 mile, take Storrow Drive exit.
* Continue on Storrow. (about 5 minutes)
* Drive West to the Kenmore exit. (left hand exit, next exit after Mass Ave)
* Kenmore exit off Storrow Drive. The exit is to your left. bear right at exit.

WEST :
Use Massachusetts Turnpike Extension/Storrow Drive/Charlesgate Overpass:
* Take I-90 East Massachusetts Turnpike to boston.
* Exit at Cambridge tolls and proceed towards Cambridge.
* Turn right onto Storrow Drive East before crossing the Charles River.
* Continue on Storrow . (about 5 minutes)
* Drive East to the Kenmore exit. (right hand exit, next exit after Mass Ave)
* Kenmore exit off Storrow Drive. The exit is to your left. bear right at exit.

What is the difference between a dormitory room and a private room?
You can purchase either one bed in a room (a dorm bed) or the entire room (a private room). Dorm rooms have up to 3 beds and are separated by gender. They are shared with other hostellers. Private rooms accommodate 1, 2, or 3 people and can be coed. All of our dorm rooms and our private rooms have private baths and air conditioning.

When are you open?
We are open from June 3, 2005 to mornign of August 14, 2005. If you would like to make a reservation for a date outside of this range you can go to the boston Hostel, which is open year round (link).

How can I reserve a bed?
Making a reservation is simple. You can reserve on-line or by phone. We need at least 24 hours notice for a reservation. In order to make a reservation, you need a valid visa or mastercard. Reservations are always recommended. For more information, please link to our "reservation page".

Am I charged at the time of reservation?
No, a credit card guarantees your reservation. Payment is taken at check-in.

How many nights can I stay at the hostel?
In order to make space for other hostellers, there is a maximum length of stay of 14 nights within any six month period.

What Identification do I need?
Each guest must have a government issued photo ID such as a passport, driver's license, state/provincial or national identity card, military service card, or alien registration card. Hostelling International membership card are required for member discounts. Unfortunately we cannot accept ISIC cards, college, school and university IDs.

What if I’m not a member?
No problem. You can always buy a membership on-line. Or you can purchase a membership at the hostel, or choose to pay the temporary membership fee of an additional $3.00 per night.

What time do I check-in & check-out?
Our staff will make every effort to check you in no matter what time you arrive. If your room should happen to not be available yet, you can relax in our dining room and enjoy a cup of complimentary coffee until it is ready at 12 noon. Check-out is at 11:00 AM. Hostelling International-boston is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Are there any age restrictions?
HI-boston is open to guests at all ages. All guests under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or chaperone for group visits.

Do I need a sleeping bag?
We include the cost of all bed linen and towels in the overnight fee. boston public health regulations prohibit the use of sleeping bags in our dormitories.

What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations require 24 hour notice. You will be charged for the first night if you do not arrive or call in advance to cancel.


Can I receive phone calls?
Yes, but there are no phones in the rooms. Messages can be left at the front desk.

Do you have parking?
No, but at the front desk we have information about parking garages.

Do you have laundry facilities?
Yes, we do. The washers cost $1.50 and the dryers are $1.50 per load. It takes approximately 90 minutes to wash and dry.

Can I reserve a Red Sox ticket when I make my hostel booking?
Unfortunately we are not able to hold tickets for our guests. You can buy your ticket in person when you check in, and they will be sold on a first-come first-served basis.
